What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial Massage is a wonderfully restorative, drug-free remedy combining trigger-point therapy, specialised pressure techniques and passive joint stretching. It is ideal for people who have suffered injuries or have sore/stiff muscles
What is the difference between Remedial & Deep Tissue Massage?
Remedial massage is often confused with the deep tissue because they are both seemingly firm massages. However, in reality they are very different. A remedial massage is for people who have suffered injuries or have sore/stiff muscles. Pretty much areas that need to be worked on. It can be very beneficial for individuals experiencing lower back pain, shoulder pains or headaches.
Deep Tissue massage on the other hand, is a full body relaxation style massage but with a much firmer pressure as it targets the deeper layers of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is the massage of choice for individuals seeking deep pressure and what we could call “good” pain.
This is my first massage. What should I expect?
Please make sure you hydrate yourself before the massage. Alcohol is a bit no no. If you are a first time client, your therapist will require you to fill out a consultation form unless you have already filled it out online during the booking process. Your therapist will discuss your main concerns that you wish to address during the treatment and determine if the selected treatment is appropriate for you.
It is important to make yourself comfortable. When the therapist needs to adjust your position, she will either move you or will ask you to move as needed. You can change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. While many people close their eyes and relax during a session, others prefer to talk. It is your massage and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax.
What are the benefits of Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage shares a bunch of benefits that you will enjoy.
- Removes toxins from your body thus stimulating better blood supply.
- Has the capacity to calm the peripheral nervous system thus easing you from pain and discomfort. With several therapeutic sessions, you will notice the difference.
- Helps repair tissues and maintain health of the cells in your body.
- Eases tension and stiffness related to sports injuries, neck and back pain, frozen shoulder, arthritis and any other skeletal and muscular dysfunctions.
- Helps increase joint mobility
- Helps lower your stress levels
How will i feel after a remedial massage?
After a remedial massage you will feel pain free, rejuvenated and relaxed. You will experience greater range of motion and flexibility. For the first few hours the massaged areas may feel a bit tender but that feeling will subside. Drink plenty of water before and after the massage to help flush out the toxins from the tissues. You can have a warm bath, preferably using magnesium salts (these are the better kind, despite the marketing of Epsom salts. If you can’t source magnesium chloride salts, Epsom will do.) The salt bath will promote restoration of the muscle fibres, especially if combined with some stretching.
Can any therapist perform a Remedial Massage?
Because remedial massage has therapeutic qualities aiming to treat injuries and other aliments, a remedial massage must only be performed by a professional remedial massage therapist. Your therapist must possess a certificate 4 in remedial massage therapy as a minimum qualification. A qualified remedial therapist has the knowledge and skills to treat musculoskeletal problems using advanced techniques.
Are there contraindications to Remedial Massage?
A Remedial Massage is one of the most beneficial massage treatments available, however there are certain conditions which would render massage unsuitable for a person’s health and wellbeing.

Can I have Remedial Massage during pregnancy?
It is unwise to undergo deep massage at any point during pregnancy due to increased risk of miscarriage. Check out our Pregnancy Massage instead, developed to ensure safety and to treat specific conditions associated with pregnancy.
I had a C-Section. Can I have a remedial massage?
C-section births have a higher risk factor than natural births because it is an invasive procedure. During the healing process, massage, deep pressure and vibration should all be avoided. The C- section scar takes about 12 weeks to heal completely and movements in the wrong direction can aggravate the scar. For that reason, we can not offer a full body massage in the first 3 months after giving birth by C-section
