MASSAGE RELATED QUESTIONS I
How does massage work?
Massage therapy improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues.
It relieves muscle tension and pain, increases flexibility and mobility, and helps clear lactic acid and other waste which reduces pain and stiffness in muscles and joints.
Will I be covered during treatment?
Yes, at all times we use towel draping and respect your privacy during your massage.
Are your massage oils hypoallergenic?
We use natural, hypoallergenic and non acnegenic massage oils and lotions. However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotions please bring it to the massage therapist’s attention for an alternative product to be used.
Can you adjust the pressure of my massage?
We strongly encourage our clients to give feedback to our therapists during the treatment. The therapist will also check with you during the massage that the pressure is firm enough for you. However if at any stage you would like the pressure changed or you are uncomfortable for any reason, please let your therapist know.
Why do people get massages?
People get massage therapy for relaxation or to help treat a variety of health conditions:
- Back pain
- Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and tendinitis
- Stress relief and stress-related conditions
- Headaches and migraines
- Muscle and related conditions such as spasms, strains and sprains
- Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Circulatory and respiratory problems
- Post-injury and post surgical rehabilitation
- Massage therapy relieves stress by lowering levels of hormones such as cortisol.
- Massage therapy also helps enhance immune function.
How will I feel after a massage?
Most people feel calm and relaxed after a treatment. Occasionally, people experience mild temporary aching for a day if they had a remedial or deep tissue massage. You might also experience a euphoric tingling sensation as the muscles are relaxing.
Can I have a massage after natural birth?
If you just had a baby by natural birth, you can have a massage as soon as 48 hours after childbirth
Is it safe to have a massage after C-Section?
C-section births have a higher risk factor than natural births and it is an invasive procedure. During the healing process, massage, deep pressure and vibration should all be avoided.
Why? The C- section scar takes about 12 weeks to heal completely and movements in the wrong direction can aggravate the scar. To have full body massage during recovery from C-section increases the risk of the incision opening, the muscles not rejoining properly and even cause an infection into the wound.
If you have a gift certificate that you wish to redeem, or you are in urgent need of some relief prior to the 10-12 weeks, we can offer you the following safe treatments:
- Indian head massage
- Shoulder Massage
- Foot Massage
- Hand and Arm massage
Having a full body massage prior to the 10-12 weeks guideline may put you at risk and delay your full recovery.
Is a massage always suitable?
Massage therapy is not recommended to people with infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds, immediately after surgery, immediately after chemotherapy or radiation unless recommended by your doctor.
Massage should not be done directly over bruises, inflamed skin, unhealed wounds, tumours, abdominal hernia, or areas of recent fractures.
Other known contraindications to massage include deep vein thrombosis, bleeding disorders or taking blood thinners such as Warfarin, damaged blood vessels, weakened bones from cancer, osteoporosis, or fractures, and fever.
MASSAGE RELATED QUESTIONS II
What to expect during my first massage?
If you are a first time client, your therapist will require you to fill out a consultation form unless you have already filled it out online during the booking process. Your therapist will discuss your main concerns that you wish to address during the treatment and determine if the selected treatment is appropriate for you.
What should I do during a massage treatment?
It is important to make yourself comfortable. When the therapist needs to adjust your position, she will either move you or will ask you to move as needed. You can change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. While many people close their eyes and relax during a session, others prefer to talk. It is your massage and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax.
What should I wear before a massage?
Before your therapist arrive, you can wear what you normally would. Lower undergarments, a sport top and shorts may be worn – whatever you’re most comfortable with. It is also good for jewellery to be removed.
Will I be covered during a massage?
Yes, at all times we use towel draping and respect your privacy during your massage.
Can you adjust the pressure of my massage?
We strongly encourage our clients to give feedback to our therapists during the treatment. The therapist will also check with you during the treatment that you are comfortable. However if at any stage you would like the pressure changed or you are uncomfortable for any reason, please let your therapist know.
Can I extend my treatment?
Requests for treatment extensions are very common, especially for most of our shorter treatments. If you wish to make an extension, you need to ask your therapist if he/she has another scheduled appointment immediately after your session as you wish to extend. In most cases the extension has to be confirmed with us.
If our therapist is unsure whether or not someone made a booking in the meantime, we need to be contacted prior to the extension to ensure our schedule will not be affected. If our therapist has another booking, then unfortunately we will not be able to service your request. If our therapist has a free time slot then you are more than welcome to extend. As a general rule, we encourage our clients to book longer treatments because we know how much you will love it!
